Quite incredibly, Ange Postecoglou's position as Nottingham Forest manager appears close to untenable less than five weeks into the job.
After the latest defeat at Newcastle, his team have taken just a single point from four Premier League matches under his stewardship, scoring just one goal against Burnley.
The Tricky Trees were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Swansea and lost 3-2 at home against Danish club Midtjylland in the Europa League.
The bookmakers have him odds on to become the third Premier League manager sacked this season after Nuno and Graham Potter - a market position reinforced by a timely win for Man United's Ruben Amorim against Sunderland before the international break.
Is he set to become the latest big club manager casualty after Russell Martin at Rangers? Will he still be in charge by the time Chelsea roll into town on Saturday lunchtime?
The eccentric Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly considering another mid-season managerial change and has a replacement in mind...
Who will be the next Forest manager?
If Forest do indeed make a second change after just seven league matches played, there are a number of managers who will be at the front of the queue.
Having dropped back in the race to succeed Martin at Rangers, Sean Dyche is reportedly waiting in the wings to replace Postecoglou in the East Midlands.
Dyche has been out of work since leaving Everton in January of this year. Before that, he had been with Burnley for almost 10 years, bringing them up to the big time on two occasions.
If it's not Dyche, where else might Marinakis or sporting director Edu look?
The Forest owner sat next to Rafael Benitez during Arsenal's win over his other club, Olympiakos, and the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle boss is currently out of work.
Could the Greek go back to a former manager in Pedro Martins? The Portuguese manager guided Olmypiacos to three consecutive titles from 2019/20 to 2021/22 before getting the boot.
Julen Lopetegui was linked to the job as Nuno's exit neared but his reputation has dropped since his failed stint at West Ham. It would be quite the story if he and Nuno swapped clubs they started last season with.
Premier League Sack Race Odds
Here's the current betting odds for the next Premier League manager to leave their post.
Manager | Odds to leave |
Ange Postecoglou | 4/9 |
Ruben Amorim | 7/1 |
Daniel Farke | 20/1 |
Enzo Maresca | 25/1 |
Vitor Pereira | 25/1 |
As the odds suggest, Postecoglou is the favourite to become the next manager sacked by a Premier League club in what has been a two-horse race with Man United's Ruben Amorim, at least until Amorim's Sunderland reprieve took him out to 7/1 on BetVictor.
As soon as Graham Potter was ousted by West Ham (and replaced by the first manager sacked in Nuno), Amorim who assumed favouritism in the latest sack race. In fact, before Forest's latest defeat in the Europa League, he was close to 70% likely to be the third manager sacked at odds of 4/9.
However, Postecoglou is now 4/9 (implied 69.2% chance) to be next out the door, pushing Amorim out to a much more comfortable 7/1. Who will be pushed first - Ruben or Ange?
The short term fixtures aren't kind for Postecoglou either. Chelsea, Porto, Bournemouth and Man United are their next four opponents. The 60-year-old needs to start finding wins as soon as possible to avoid a swift departure.
