Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Cam Miller has apparently improved by leaps and bounds in just the past few weeks.

We got a taste of that in the preseason Week 1 game, when Miller completed 6-of-7 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown while also looking more poised than you'd expect from the first-year player.

Miller wasn't as sharp in preseason Week 2, but ups and downs are normal for a rookie. He did, however, show flashes with a few nice throws that left us impressed.

Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal revealed on the First and 10 Podcast that someone in the Raiders' organization told him that Miller has "grown in dog years the last couple of weeks."

“I was talking to somebody in the organization [who said] it feels like he’s grown in dog years the last couple of weeks, just in terms of he looks different than he did just three weeks ago,” Bonsignore said. “So, that’s something to keep an eye on.”

As a sixth-round pick, Miller faced an uphill climb in making the roster, especially with the team seemingly having a solid situation at quarterback with starter Geno Smith and backup Aidan O'Connell.

However, based on what Bonsignore said and what we've seen of Miller in the preseason, it would appear he's got a real shot to make the cut.

Bonsignore has even suggested that Miller could unseat O'Connell for the QB2 job, whether that be before or during it.

"O’Connell has had a subpar preseason, throwing three interceptions in his two appearances. That, plus the development of rookie sixth-round pick Cam Miller, could cause the Raiders to reassess their quarterback pecking order at some point," he said.

"Carroll is a firm believer in rewarding players who prove they deserve promotions, however. He won’t hesitate to make a move if Miller shows he’s a better option than O’Connell," Bonsignore concluded.

It's true that O'Connell has been bad in exhibition play and he has probably hit his ceiling — which isn't very high — in the NFL.

If the Raiders don't want to carry three quarterbacks and are high enough on Miller, they should keep him over O'Connell. At least there's a chance Miller develops into something and gives the Raiders the long-term solution they need.
