After three weeks, there is a handle on who are some of the state’s top teams.
That does not mean that there were not any surprises in any of the results.
While last week featured no new teams on this list, we have some new teams that made the leap this week.
With wins over Top 25 teams, Calvary and St. Charles join this week’s rankings along with Catholic (New Iberia), which had been on the waiting in each of the first three polls.
Here is the Week 4 version of The Sporting News’ Louisiana football Top 25.

It does not get any easier for the Cougars with Neville coming to Lafayette for a final pre-district showdown.

The Eagles have a date with Airline this week with first place in District 1-5A hanging in the balance.
22. St. Charles
- 2025 Record: 3-0
- Last Week: Not Ranked
Next Game: Sept. 26, De La Salle (0-3)
Last Game: St. Charles 27, No. 19 Dunham 21
Current Streak: 3 wins
Being 3-0 is vastly different from being 0-3 at this point last year. The Comets’ defense shut down Elijah Haven when it counted the most, thanks to a pair of defensive touchdowns by Jireh Hall and Brooks Monica in the fourth quarter. St. Charles also leaned on running back Skyler Edwards, who had 158 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries. The Comets host a winless De La Salle team that has played one of the toughest schedules in the state.

- Last Week: No. 18
Next Game: Sept. 25, Caldwell Parish (1-2)
Last Game: Calvary 33, No. 18 Franklin Parish 30
Current Streak: 1 loss
The Patriots fell short of erasing a 23-0 halftime deficit against Calvary, despite the play of LSU commit Dezyrian Ellis and Treylon Martin. Ellis had a solid game with 271 total yards and three touchdowns, but Martin also got it done rushing and receiving – finishing with 195 yards and a touchdown. Franklin Parish will look to regroup against Caldwell Parish on a short week.

Last Game: Catholic (New Iberia) 56, Patterson 21
Current Streak: 16 wins
After weeks of knocking on the door, the Panthers finally crack the Top 25. Tied with No. 1 Edna Karr for the longest winning streak in the state at 16 wins, Catholic took care of Patterson with ease. The Panthers go to Crowley to face a Notre Dame team that barely lost to Teurlings Catholic last week.
25. Dunham
- 2025 Record: 2-1
- Last Week: No. 19
Next Game: Sept. 25, at Ascension Catholic (2-1)
Last Game: St. Charles 27, No. 19 Dunham 21
Current Streak: 1 loss
The Tigers barely hold on to a spot in the Top 25, but last week’s game against St. Charles was one they would love to have back. Dunham junior quarterback Elijah Haven passed for 315 yards and ran for 105 more, but a pair of interceptions leading to touchdowns marred a reliable performance. The Tigers head to Ascension Catholic for one final pre-district tune-up Thursday.
