Collingwood great Nathan Buckley has publicly declared his interest in coaching the incoming Tasmania side and given details on his failed Demons bid.
The 53-year-old has stayed mostly quiet amid his coaching links, with his name regularly associated with the new Devils franchise over the last two years.
Melbourne announced this week Steven King will be its new head coach after Buckley had asked the Demons for more time, something they weren't prepared to entertain.
Tasmania always loomed as Buckley's preferred destination once he decided he did want to return to coaching and he met with Demons chief executive Brendon Gale on Monday.

“It went well,” Buckley told SEN Whateley of the meeting. “Obviously, I’ve tried to be as open and as transparent as I can because it’s not my remit really.
“The Melbourne process was run and done and I thought that was run pretty well and they came to their conclusion, which was excellent.
“Now I’ve lurched in the Tassie process – you don’t want to give blow by blows because you’re respectful of the other side absolutely.
“It was good to have that chat, they’ll continue on their path and what they need to do as an organisation.
“A senior coach is but one role that they’re looking to investigate and fill and I’m not sure of the timing of that.”
Buckley referenced the Giants and Suns when asked about what appeals to him about the Tassie move and the opportunity to "build something from scratch".
He also professed his love of Tasmania, calling it "edgy" and "not as conventional" as other parts of the country.
Buckley also mentioned the importance of the controversial new stadium project, which received a hit via a damning report from the Tasmanian Planning Commission on Wednesday.
The former Collingwood captain knows the Devils still have a process to go through before naming their inaugural coach, but was asked directly if he would accept the job if it was offered.
“That’s probably the question that I asked myself before getting to the final position with Melbourne and that’s why I couldn’t answer definitively with Melbourne,” he admitted.
“Yes. The answer is yes and I probably wasn’t there until the Melbourne process, ironically.
“I’ve determined that I’d love to coach again. If Tassie feel that I’m a fit, then I’ll be there, but that’s up to them to work out.
"Beyond that, if that doesn’t work out then I go back to the drawing board."
