We have a real mismatch on paper taking place at Turf Moor this afternoon, as one of the Premier League new boys welcome the defending champions across Lancashire.

Scott Parker and his Burnley side gained promotion built on a remarkable defensive record. They have managed a win, against Sunderland, sandwiched between defeats at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Old Trafford so far this season.

Liverpool, on the other hand, after an extremely busy summer transfer window, have managed three wins from three against AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Arsenal; albeit Arne Slot’s side haven’t quite hit the heights of last season just yet in terms of their performance level.

The Sporting News has all the latest odds, tips and predictions for this clash at Turf Moor as Liverpool aim to retake top spot on a big day for the league. The other match of the day is the Manchester Derby at the Etihad.

Burnley vs. Liverpool prediction

Scott Parker will set his Burnley side up quite defensively, seeking to make things difficult for Liverpool. The Reds will be expected to ease themselves to victory eventually, but it may not be overly thrilling for the neutral on Sunday afternoon.

The Sporting News Score Prediction:

Burnley 0-2 Liverpool

Here's how we think these teams will line up this weekend. Burnley could hand a debut to new signing Florentino Luis, who has joined on loan from Benfica. Liverpool are likely to keep £125 million signing Alexander Isak in reserve for Hugo Ekitike.

Burnley vs. Liverpool team news

  • Scott Parker played a back four throughout last season but the Englishman switched to a back three in pre-season for a bit, and they also played it against Tottenham and, with the experience of Kyle Walker, will likely do so again.
  • The Clarets could hand a debut to Florentino Luis in midfield, perhaps partnering captain Josh Cullen and former Manchester United man Hannibal Mejbri.
  • As Liverpool travel across Lancashire to Turf Moor, there will be excitement about the potential debut of Alexander Isak, but he is expected to start on the bench, having lacked match fitness for Sweden over the international break.
  • The Reds head to Turf Moor with a couple of injury issues as Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined alongside England international midfielder Curtis Jones.

Burnley vs. Liverpool Bet Builder tips

Our bet builder for this one is Liverpool to win (1/3), Hannibal Mejbri to commit one or more fouls in each half (10/11), Mohamed Salah to have two or more shots on target (1/1), Burnley to have under 3.5 corners (17/20) and over 1.5 cards for Burnley (1/2), which comes in at overall odds of 15.66/1 with Paddy Power.
