As some schools opened district play in Week 3 of the 2025 high school football season, players across the Lone Star State continued to shine under the Thursday and Friday night lights.

The Sporting News narrowed down 25 standout players from Week 3. We will continue to do so each week of the season leading up to the UIL state championships in Arlington in December.

Top performances from Week 3 of Texas high school football

Jonathan Anthony, Dallas Conrad: The senior cornerback helped lead the Chargers to a 47-26 win, their first of the season, over Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis. Anthony made eight tackles, broke up two passes, recovered two fumbles and had a 60-yard pick-six.

Josh Babin, Baytown Goose Creek Memorial: After going winless last season, the Patriots are off to a 3-0 start with the help of the senior receiver. In a 68-7 mauling of Clear Brook on Thursday night, Babin had seven catches for 284 yards and five touchdowns. He finished the game with 325 all-purpose yards.

Kyden Barker, Clear Falls: The Tulsa commit capped off a huge game by coming up big in the clutch. Barker threw a game-winning, 26-yard touchdown to Zach Greer with 23 seconds remaining to lift the Knights to a 51-44 win over Cypress Falls. Barker was 24-of-36 for 375 yards and six touchdowns.

Caleb Crenshaw, Austin Anderson: No. 1 was cooking on Friday night. The senior running back rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns — including a 98-yarder — on 32 attempts (7.1 yards per carry) to lift the Trojans to a big 37-14 victory over College Station to open district play.

Jarvse Dickerson, Wallis Brazos: The senior running back was a nightmare for St. John XIII on Friday night. Dickerson rushed for 307 yards on 11 carries (27.9 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown to help the Cougars to a 58-0 win. Dickerson had 388 yards of total offense.

Jack Drygas, Frisco Legacy Christian: Have a game, Jack Drygas. The senior kicker booted three field goals — including a 64-yarder(!) — to help the Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season with a 30-7 victory over Dallas HSAA. He also had three punts for 95 yards (31.7 average) and five touchbacks on seven kickoffs.

DeShawn Edwards, Mansfield Lake Ridge: The junior signal-caller was a magician for the Eagles in a 34-27 comeback win over Richardson on Friday night. Edwards threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Mika Blow to give Lake Ridge its first lead of the game with 4:13 remaining. He was 12-of-23 passing with a touchdown with 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries (7.2 yards per carry). Lake Ridge is 3-0 on the season after going 1-9 in 2024.

Marcus Flowers, Princeton: Flowers was dropping dimes in Friday’s 57-55 double-overtime victory over Plano East. The senior QB1 was 37-of-54 for 397 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He also rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries to help the Panthers improve to 3-0 (1-0).

Chris Guidry, Brenham: The Cubs kept on rolling with a 49-22 victory over Bryan on Friday night. The senior receiver had a huge game with 12 catches for 214 yards (17.8 yards per catch) and four touchdowns. He also had two carries for 44 yards and another score and one punt return for 15 yards. Guidry is now Brenham’s all-time leading receiver with 1,884 career yards.

Logan Gutierrez, Celina: In a neutral-site battle of defending state champions, the senior ball-carrier came up huge. Gutierrez rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries (8.4 yards per carry) to help Celina knock off Gunter, 43-19, for its 19th straight victory.

Alton Henderson, Marshall: The senior quarterback gave the defense fits in a 49-33 victory over Tyler Legacy. Henderson rushed for 266 yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries (10.2 yards per carry) and was 5-of-9 passing for 101 yards and another score. The Mavericks are now 2-1 on the season.

Harrison Hicks, Frisco: The senior outside linebacker was all over the place for the Raccoons in their 55-0 thumping of Frisco Centennial to open district play on Friday night. Hicks had 10 tackles, including two for loss, and an interception return for a touchdown.

Marzellus Hunter, Dickinson: The senior safety helped the Gators top Cy-Fair, 35-21, to improve to 3-0 on the season. Hunter had two interceptions, including a 59-yarder for a touchdown. Dickinson is off to its best start to a season since 2018.

KJ Jenkins, Alvarado: The Indians improved to 2-0 on the season with the help of a big-time performance by their junior quarterback. Jenkins was 17-of-26 for 447 yards and five touchdowns in a 63-28 demolishing of Robinson. Teammate Demarcus Belton caught three of those touchdowns and finished with 202 yards on six catches.

David Lindig, Lindale: The junior quarterback was spectacular in leading the Eagles to a thrilling 56-49 win in the FM 16 Rivalry against Van on Friday night. Lindig scored on a 17-yard run with 31 seconds left to cap a huge night in which he went 14-of-27 for 208 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 94 yards and two more touchdowns on 11 carries (8.5 yards per carry). 

Weston Nielsen, Bastrop: The junior Bears quarterback continued his magical season with a monster game against Plano Prestonwood Christian last week. Nielsen was 22-of-32 for 549 yards and seven touchdowns in Bastrop’s 70-55 victory. The Bears are off to a 3-0 start to the season.

Ernie Powers, El Paso Franklin: And you thought last week was impressive. After rushing for 324 yards and four touchdowns in a loss to El Paso Del Valle, Powers was at it again in a 49-42 win over Lubbock Monterrey. The senior running back tallied 365 yards and six touchdowns on 43 carries (8.5 yards per carry). He is just one yard shy of 1,000 for the season and has 15 touchdowns in just three games, leading all rushers in Texas.

Khamill Pruitt, Arlington Lamar: The senior wide receiver was money in the bank on Friday night. He hauled in five catches for 224 yards (44.8 yards per catch) and three touchdowns to help lead the Vikings to a 35-24 win over Mesquite Horn. It was the first win of the season for Lamar.

Buck Randall, Highland Park: The junior signal-caller was on fire in last week’s 42-14 win over Dallas Jesuit. Randall was 16-of-27 for 346 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. He also rushed for 47 yards and another score to help the Scots improve to 2-1.

Tre’vaughn Reynolds, Denton Ryan: Reynolds helped the Raiders open district play with a resounding 43-14 victory over Keller Fossil Ridge. The senior running back scampered for 209 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries (12.3 yards per carry).

Chuck Smith, Richardson Lake Highlands: The Highland Park transfer came up big for the Wildcats in a 52-38 road win at Flower Mound. Smith was 23-of-27 for 409 yards and five touchdowns without an interception to help Lake Highlands improve to 2-1 on the season.

Kaden Stefek, Hutto: The Hippos put up points in bunches in a 63-49 win over Cedar Ridge on Friday night. The senior quarterback went off, going 28-of-42 for 443 yards and six touchdowns through the air. Stefek added 49 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Rayshaun Williams, Kilgore: The junior running back helped the Bulldogs put the smackdown on Gilmer, 66-6, last Friday night. Williams finished with 181 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries (11.3 yards per carry). He also had a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to help Kilgore improve to 2-1.

Landen Williams-Callis, Richmond Randle: The star running back put on a show in Friday’s 59-26 win over Fort Bend Travis. The junior, ranked No. 32 in the Class of 2027 by 24/7 Sports, tallied 326 yards and six touchdowns on 22 carries, pushing his season total to 610 yards and 11 TD’s.

Dawson Witherspoon, Mount Vernon: Although his team suffered its first loss of the season, 41-34 to Pottsboro last week, the senior running back continued to deliver. Witherspoon tallied 312 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 42 carries (7.4 yards per carry).
